Transtector Systems, part of part of Smiths Interconnect’s Protection Technology Group is pleased to announce the launch of its first smart technology surge recorder. The I2R SSR reliably documents and timestamps the number of transient strikes encountered by the monitored equipment.
An inductive current probe senses surge currents as low as 1kA threshold on the ground conductor, while a microprocessor converts and records the signals for later viewing. The I2R SSR’s recording capacity allows the storage of up to 80 records enabling long-term surge analysis over time.
“Surge recorders can help guide preventative maintenance schedules and programs by indicating when valuable electronic assets might be under greater surge stress. This relates particularly to internal switching transients as well as power quality issues arising from nearby users of the same main power grid” notes Andrew Dawson, (Vice President of Global Engineering and Product Management). “Furthermore, analysis of surge frequency on the AC environment provides a rough indication about the possible need for surge protection on other RF and data cables.”
