Transtector Systems Receives Hazardous Location Certifications for Surge Suppression Solutions

Thursday, February 5, 2015
Transtector Systems, a Smiths Power business, today announced the certification of several key surge protection products to critical global standards for usage in hazardous locations. These include versatile and reliable AC, DC and data line surge protection devices.

Continuing its strategic directive of designing products to key global standards, Transtector engineered several purpose-driven protection solutions for hazardous locations where flammable chemicals and vapors may be encountered.  The products are designed to offer high-level  protection for critical equipment operating in dangerous environmental conditions to reduce downtime. Certified in the United States for Class I Division 2 locations, in Canada for Class I Zone 2 locations as well as International ATEX Category 3F and IECEx Protection Level Gc locations, these suppression products provide reliable protection from lightning and power anomalies in mission-critical applications within industrial, chemical and oil and gas markets.

Key protection devices within the AC, DC and data product lines meet these requirements. Specific model numbers and configurations are available on the company’s web site product selector, www.smithspower.com.

Surge protection devices are commonly deployed in numerous applications in the oil and gas sector to help minimize economic risk due to downtime, lost revenue and equipment replacement in the event of lightning strikes, surges, or other power events.  Due to the volatile environments that often typify these hazardous locations, certifications are required for nearly all applications.

“A wide range of Transtector’s AC, DC and data line surge protection product lines will now have hazardous location certified products for selection”, said Anand Krishna, Vice President of Engineering for Smiths Power . “The IEP, I2R, CPX, DRDC, DRI and ALPU product lines will all have options suitable for intrinsically safe surge protection in hazardous areas required throughout the world.”

All products are available today from Transtector or through the company’s global channel partners. For more details, including ordering information, visit www.smithspower.com or contact 1 208 772 8515.
