Transtector Systems Launches ISO 14001 EMS Certification Program

Tuesday, January 21, 2003
Transtector Systems today announced a program that will lead to adopting procedures and policies to achieve Environmental Management Systems certification via ISO 14001. "We are committed to this next level of quality management via ISO Standards" stated Shawn Thompson, Managing Director. "Globally, the Smith's Group Interconnect Division views ISO 14001 as an opportunity to improve both environmental impact and operations at the same time".

Overall benefits can include:

Reductions in the risk of accidental pollutant releases (e.g. spills, leaks and catastrophic failures) and improved regulatory compliance.

Improvements in Eco-Efficiency (i.e. reductions in energy and water use, generating less waste, using less raw materials per unit output)

New products with better environmental performance via techniques such as Eco-Design that builds towards improved energy efficiency, use of fewer hazardous materials and end-of-life recyclability.
ISO 14001 (EMS) certification is receiving significant attention internationally as the world becomes increasingly concerned with environmental issues and global corporate citizenship. The initial level of uptake has far exceeded the interest with ISO 9000 in its early days. Transtector is targeting June 2003 for completion of the program. Once certified, Transtector will join a select group of businesses on the forefront of this quality initiative. Nationally, there are only 5,000 firms with this certification with seven being in the state of Idaho.
