LEA International, part of the Protection Technology Group, is pleased to announce its PV Plus unit has passed two difficult independent tests with extraordinary results. The PV Plus is a per mode, modular surge suppression unit with all modes of protection listed to UL 1449 3rd edition and designed with robust surge capacity for long life. The PV Plus is engineered for easy installation and serviceability to eliminate downtime and protect critical equipment.
The testing took place at Alion Science and Technology, R&B Laboratory, an independent lab in Pennsylvania. The two tests conducted were a repetitive surge test and a single surge pulse test. These tests were done in reference to ANSI, IEEE, NEC, UL and NEMA LS. The units pass or fail is determined by testing the deviation in the voltage protection rating (VPR) before and after testing with a ±10% tolerance.
The repetitive surge test subjected the PV Plus to 15,000 surges. The testing was conducted over an 11 day period, 24 hours a day. During the period, the unit was hit with an 8/20µs 10 kA surge at one minute intervals. The units Voltage Protection Rating (VPR) was tested before and after the unit was subjected to 15,000 repetitive 10 kA surges with voltage applied. The outcome proved a maximum deviation in the VPR of 2.24%. The phenomenal results demonstrate the robust, reliable nature of the PV Plus in a situation that far exceeds any real world scenario.
The single pulse test required the PV Plus be subjected to a 200 kA surge event applied on a single mode with voltage applied. The VPR was tested before and after with a maximum deviation of 6.8%. These results go above and beyond the type of single pulse transient event a surge protection device may see in actual use. LEA tested at the highest level possible to demonstrate the durable design of the PV Plus.
