Low-voltage AC electrical equipment is designed to operate at up to 600 volts continuously. However, when a storm comes along and a lightning strike suddenly injects thousands of volts through your company’s power lines, the damage can be costly. But you can eliminate the mismatch with Transtector’s SP50RS AC surge protectors. Designed for use both indoors and outdoors and in industrial settings, they are versatile, fast enough to blunt lightning strikes, all-weather rugged, and only about the size of your fist.
Versatile
The SP50RS has several features that will allow you to use it in numerous settings. First, it is a transient voltage surge suppressor (TVSS) that can protect your AC-powered equipment from not only lightning surge, but from other causes of overvoltage.
Second, it comes in many voltages, from a 120 VAC single-phase design to a 120/240 VAC split-phase to a 347/600 VAC three-phase, and more.
Third, it can be installed indoors or out in the elements. Mount it next to the circuit breakers inside a main AC power panel to protect an entire facility. Or mount it outside to protect any AC-powered equipment.
Following are some of the ways you can use the SP50RS AC surge protector:
- Electrical panelboards
- Industrial automation
- Communications base stations
- IT and data centers
- Switchgear
- Motor control centers
- Automatic transfer switches
- Wastewater treatment
- Oil and gas
- LED lighting
- Schools
- Hospitals
Fast!
The SP50RS employs metal oxide varistor (MOV) circuits to protect electrical devices from AC spikes. MOVs can shunt a lot of transient energy away from your equipment and can respond in less than 25 nanoseconds, making them useful against lightning strikes. Also, they maintain a low clamping (let-through) voltage so that your equipment is only exposed to a voltage that is slightly above its rated level for a very short time, allowing it to continue to operate normally instead of being turned into a piece of electrical toast.
Rugged
The SP50RS is rugged inside and out. Inside, its high-capacity 50 kA MOV circuits can withstand repeated lightning surges with much slower degradation over time than GDT suppressors. Outside, the device is weatherproof. Rated NEMA-4X, it has a gasket to seal off the insides from water, airborne particles and corrosion. The interior remains dry even if ice forms on its exterior. Its operational temperature range is minus 40 degrees F all the way up to 185 F.
Compact
An SP50RS AC surge protector is cube-shaped with dimensions of only about 3.25 inches and therefore takes up little space, which is especially helpful inside a cramped AC power panel.
Our SP50RS AC surge protectors are in-stock and available for immediate shipment. They are part of our wide array of AC surge protection products. For more information, visit Transtector.com or contact us at +1 (208) 635-6400.
