A power distribution unit (PDU) controls the electrical power flow to devices so that they operate safely, efficiently and reliably. It does not generate power but distributes it to, for instance, IT equipment in a data center. Other uses might include:
- Telecommunications base stations
- Land mobile radio
- First-responder sites
- Emergency management systems
- Industrial automation
- Utilities
Following are some of the most essential and popular features of a DC PDU:
Power Conversion
DC power is commonly created by converting AC power to DC power with a rectifier. Transtector’s DCIPS series DC PDUs have integrated rectifiers to directly accept AC power from common utility services and convert it to DC for output to the equipment loads. The number of integrated rectifiers installed can also be scaled depending on the total DC output power required.
Power Monitoring and Control
For critical systems, it is desirable to be able to monitor and control the power that is being distributed to each of the equipment loads. Transtector’s DCIPS series DC PDUs can be monitored and controlled from any internet connection. Voltage and current values are displayed for each circuit, and each circuit can be turned off individually when loads need to be prioritized.
Both Transtector’s DCIPS and DCPDU series DC PDUs provide local status indicators along with standard Form C alarm contacts that can be connected to a building alarm system.
Power Distribution
The most essential function of a DC PDU is to distribute the power to each equipment load, tailored to its specific power requirements.
Transtector’s DCIPS series DC PDUs come pre-configured with the most common DC circuit breaker configuration and provide a dedicated circuit breaker to connect a battery to the system.
Our DCPDU series can receive power from one or two DC sources and distribute it to 8, 10, 16 or 20 circuit breakers that are each rated at anywhere from 1 to 200 amps. This tailoring of outputs promotes safety, redundancy and reliability.
Our DC rack mount PDUs and a large selection of compatible DC circuit breakers are in-stock and available for immediate shipment. For more information, visit Transtector.com or contact us at +1 (208) 635-6400.
