Transtector SPD Protects Wireless Radio Equipment from Multiple Surges

Sometimes the effectiveness of surge protection is simple to demonstrate. So is its value.

Transtector Systems recently partnered with FluidMesh, a manufacturer of outdoor wireless Ethernet radio equipment, to surge-test radios, underscoring the importance of high-quality surge protection. The results clearly substantiate the significance of surge protection in today’s network topologies, providing critical protection for high-value transmission equipment.

As the professional Mobile Communications world grapples with determining the direction for land mobile networks, a small but growing number of mission critical network managers are looking to Mission Critical Push-to-Talk (MCPTT) services for LTE offering Push-to-Talk Over- Cellular (PoC) as an enticing offering for non-public safety needs.  Aging analog LMR (Land Mobile Radio) infrastructure needing replacement or significant upgrades, coupled with limited financial resources make PTT services attractive. MCPTT will likely gain more traction as services meeting 3GPP standard are rolled out beginning in 2017. ... Read more

Millions of people rely on railroads to efficiently travel from place to place.  It’s no secret the tracks these trains run on are located in harsh environments near high power lines and other man-made contributors to poor power quality. Since the tracks themselves act as conductors for lightning events, surge protection proves to be a vital contributor to the reliable operation of trains.

Improper grounding accounts for a large percentage of damage and misoperation of sensitive electronic equipment.  Multi-grounding renders equipment susceptible to lightning induced transient over-voltages as well as steady-state noise caused by ground loop currents.  These problems can be avoided by implementing a single-point grounding system and following the National Electrical Code.... To say the mobile revolution is here is, at best, an understatement, and at worst, several years late.

Various sources estimate from 40% to 55% of data traffic (such as online retail) takes place through mobile devices. In other words, if not already, users soon will access the internet more through mobile devices than with a PC.

As an alternative to small cell architectures, distributed antenna system (DAS) designs are taking hold worldwide as an avenue for providing coverage in targeted locations. Utilizing a structure similar to spokes off a hub in a wheel (with a cell site, or macrocell, as the hub and antennae as the spokes outward in areas of concentrated demand), DAS solutions typically can be shared by multiple operators and utilize localized power....
